Dr. Chantal Van Wely, MD

Psychiatrist

Dr. Van Wely brings empathy, warmth, insight, and a deep commitment to patient-centered care to her work as a psychiatrist. She holds undergraduate degrees in Biology from the University of West Georgia and in Humanities from Brock University in Ontario, Canada. She went on to earn her Doctor of Medicine from St. George’s University. After obtaining her medical degree, she completed her psychiatric residency at Largo Medical Hospital, where she served as Chief Resident.

Dr. Van Wely works with a wide variety of patients, treating the full range of psychiatric conditions. This may include mood disorders (e.g. depression, bipolar disorder, premenstrual dysphoric disorder), anxiety disorders (e.g. obsessive-compulsive disorder), psychotic disorders (e.g. schizophrenia), and trauma or stressor-related disorders (e.g. post-traumatic stress disorder). She is also experienced with neurodevelopmental disorders, personality disorders, substance use disorders, and sleep-wake cycle disorders. Her broad clinical experience includes both inpatient and outpatient care.

In addition to adults of all ages, Dr. Van Wely also treats adolescents and children age 8 and up. She is a member of both the American Psychiatric Association and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. She has a special interest in women’s health care, and other areas of focus and ongoing research include reproductive psychiatry, perinatal psychiatry, and maternal mental health.

Dr. Van Wely wants her patients to always feel understood and supported. She loves getting to know her patients well and watching their mental health improve over time. She utilizes the bio-psycho-social model to holistically consider a person’s medical history, family history, environment, lifestyle, values, and goals when creating their treatment plan. She strives to make a positive impact in each patient’s life by always providing high quality mental health care that is rooted in compassion.

Jessica Lea, LCSW

Therapist

Jessica grew up in southern Oregon in the Rogue Valley. She moved to Portland to attend college, earning her bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Portland.  She went on to obtain her Master of Social Work from Portland State University. She has many years of experience working in the Portland Metro area as a therapist, social worker, behavioral health consultant, case manager, and skills trainer.

Jessica offers therapy sessions for adults and adolescents age 14 and up. She frequently helps her patients challenge and reshape the thought patterns contributing to their anxiety or depression, cope with chronic pain or illness, and navigate conflict with their family, friends, or partner. She is trained in a variety of therapeutic modalities, allowing her to select the one that best meets the needs of each patient’s unique situation. She often uses:

Jessica’s experience enables her to quickly assess patients, understand the root cause of their problems, and offer realistic and tangible solutions. She begins by asking questions and listening. Then she works closely with her patients to identify specific strategies they can use to break cycles of unhealthy behavior and create positive changes in their lives. As they move forward with implementing those strategies, Jessica is there every step of the way to offer empathy, direction, and support.

Dr. Christopher Galbick, DO

Psychiatrist

Dr. Galbick was born and raised in Oregon. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Dominican University of California, earning his Bachelor of Science in Biology. He went on to complete his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Florida. During his studies, Dr. Galbick conducted medical research investigating the use of cells for neuronal replacement therapy in patients with Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease. His later research focused on evaluating the efficacy of interventional psychiatry through real world case studies.

After graduating as a physician, Dr. Galbick completed his psychiatric residency at Largo Medical Center. During his time as a resident, Dr. Galbick was selected to be Chief Resident among his peers. A strong proponent of medical education, Dr. Galbick enjoyed passing on his knowledge to medical students and supervising new psychiatry residents. He has also co-authored a handbook to teach psychiatry to future generations of resident physicians.

Dr. Galbick’s clinical experience spans the full range of psychiatry, including psychiatric treatment in outpatient and inpatient settings, telepsychiatry, ECT interventional psychiatry, emergency medicine psychiatry, internal medicine, and neurology. He is dedicated to addressing the mental health needs of our community and has provided treatment to thousands of patients struggling with depression, anxiety, panic disorder, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, anorexia nervosa, schizophrenia, and substance abuse.

With a firm belief that everyone deserves access to high-quality healthcare, Dr. Galbick strives to find ways to benefit those who are underserved. He has volunteered his time and expertise to provide medical care for patients unable to afford insurance. He has also provided psychiatric care for veterans at both the Bay Pines VA and the James A. Haley Veterans Hospital.

Dr. Galbick practices compassionate, evidence-based medicine to address the needs of his patients. He integrates each person’s medical history, personal values, and future goals to develop an individualized treatment plan.
